In a surprising move, Pakistan’s former Prime Minister Imran Khan has applied for the position of Chancellor at Oxford University while serving time in prison.
Aligned on August 5th for not properly declaring the sale of state gifts, Khan has faced numerous legal challenges, which he claims are politically motivated.
Despite his imprisonment, Khan submitted his application for the largely ceremonial Oxford Chancellor role just before the deadline. An alumnus of Keble College, where he studied Philosophy, Politics, and Economics in 1972, Khan has strong ties to the university.
The position, currently held by Lord Christopher Patten, is voted on by Oxford graduates and academic staff. While the university has not confirmed the candidates, voting is scheduled for October 28th. Khan’s candidacy is expected to draw significant attention, adding another twist to his already controversial public life.
