LAHORE: Passport Tracking Pakistan and the Immigration Department are facing primary issues in meeting the high request for passports, despite making PKR 50 to 51 billion every year.

The Department of Passport Tracking Pakistan has less the number of backlogs, that cross the limit of 1.5 million, but after this, 800,000 are still waiting for the confirmation and passport.

The main reason behind that delay is of new advanced printing machine that could double production to 40,000 to 42,000 passports per day.

Furthermore, the development of the equipment has been not completed yet due to bureaucratic red tape and import restrictions.

The administration are frustrated because they have been allotted a large number of funds from the government and still they didn’t get the funds. “We get 72,000 to 75,000 applications every day, but we can only process 22,000, leaving many applicants waiting.”

The Director General of Passport and Immigration, Mustafa Jamal Qazi also revealed the problems but still asked people to remain patient they are working hard to solve this issue as soon as possible. He also stated that: “We’ve issued passports to around 700,000 to 800,000 people from the backlog, but new applications keep coming in.”

One good thing is that a new funding request has been sent to the Finance Division, and if approved, the new machine could be in place by next month. This can be helpful and clear the backlog in between November and December.

The government is also addressing the issue, and recent reports suggest that the delays are close to being resolved. So this made some relaxation for those who are waiting for urgent base passports, the department is hopeful they will recover the problem very soon.
