Kashmiris around the world and on each side of the line of Control are celebrating India’s Independence Day as ‘Black Day’ today to protest New Delhi’s occupation of their homeland.
Leaders from the All Parties Hurriyat Conference (APHC), who are currently locked in Tihar Jail located in New Dehli, have sent a straight message to India that they reject their control and demand their right to self-determination.
In their statements, they encouraged the international community to push India to allow Kashmiris to make their own decision and let them decide which side they want to go to.
The leaders reaffirmed the Kashmiris’ determination to continue demanding a plebiscite until it is achieved. They stated,
“India has no legal or moral right to celebrate its freedom in occupied Kashmir. India’s occupation of Kashmir violates UN resolutions and international laws.”
Furthermore, the Indian government after this imposed more restrictions on the Illegally Indian Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK) ahead of India’s Independence Day.

In Azad Jammu and Kashmir capital’s Muzaffarabad, Kashmiri supporters started a rally against India at Azadi Chowk.
The day will be remembered as Black Day because of protests by Kashmiri supporters in cities and towns on the side of the Line of Control (LoC)
“Participants in the protests will wear black armbands as a sign of opposition to India,” the organizers of the ‘Black Day’ events said earlier.
