ISLAMABAD: Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Yahya Afridi organized a full court meeting on 28th October, in which all supreme court judges made an appearance. Justice Syed Mansoor Ali Shah joined the session via video link as he was performing Umrah in Saudia Arabia.
According to a statement released by the Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Yahya Afridi, the main purpose of this meeting was to discuss the submission of case handling, focusing on reducing backlogged cases and improving judicial efficiency.
The Registrar provided an update on current case numbers and outlined new strategies for timely case resolutions, revealing that 59,191 cases are still pending. A new one-month plan, based on the Case Management Plan 2023 created by Justice Mansoor Ali Shah, was introduced. This plan includes specific standards and tech-based methods for handling different types of cases.
The judges introduced ways to achieve certain goals, with criminal and civil cases assigned to special two and three-member benches to speed up resolutions. Justice Mansoor Ali Shah, joined remotely, where he put forward further techniques to improve efficiency and reduce backlog through in phases of one, three, and six months.
CJP Afridi at the end appreciated all judges for their availability and suggestions to achieve these targets and confirmed that progress would be reviewed at the next full court meeting on December 2, 2024.
